Arts Award
What are the Arts Awards?
The Arts Awards are portfolio based qualifications from Trinity College London. They vary in level from a quick Discover certificate all the way up to a Gold award which is a level 3 qualification that comes with 16 UCAS points.
Why are the Arts Awards a good option for our mentees?
Our mentees respond well to the Arts Awards as they are very flexible in how they can be implemented and delivered which can go a long way in meeting the needs for some of our young people. There are no looming deadlines or exams but simply a portfolio that can be constructed around any art form that the young person is interested in exploring. This flexible approach has meant that each award looks slightly different
What are the additional benefits of a young person doing an Arts Award?
As well as achieving a qualification, the Arts Awards support young people in developing their confidence along with a range of other skills such as communication, research, independence and leadership. Find out more here: https://www.artsaward.org.uk
Because of these soft skills being developed, an Arts Award can often contribute towards the outcomes specified in a young person’s EHCP.
What are the different levels of Arts Award?
There are 5 levels of Arts Award: Discover, Explore, Bronze, Silver and Gold.
Discover and Explore are a good option for those looking to make initial steps to re-engage with education or for younger mentees. Bronze and Silver are equivalent to a low and high grade GCSE respectively. Gold is the highest and is a level 3 qualification that comes along with 16 UCAS points.
Who should I contact if I am interested in an Arts Award for my young person?
If you think that your young person might be interested in exploring an Arts Award in their sessions you can start by discussing this with your child’s mentor.
To find out more information about the Arts Awards you can email Luke at futures@mindjam.org.uk
Disclaimer: Arts Awards are an optional service that are offered alongside regular MindJam sessions. It is down to mentor discretion if mentors feel able to support a young person with an Arts Award. If you would like to explore the potential of exploring an award and your young person’s mentor is unable to support this then we may have other mentors that could facilitate an award via additional sessions subject to availability.
