What is BlockJam Counselling?

BlockJam Counselling is MindJam’s new counselling service which uses the game Minecraft to facilitate conversations between our counsellor and the young person. This service is slightly more demand heavy than our mentoring service and focuses on discussing any problems or issues that might be troubling the child or young person.

These are available for up to 10 sessions and take place in a specifically created Minecraft world to allow for emotional exploration and learn a bit more about how our emotions work.

Although there is the expectation that the young person is aware of the purpose of their counselling sessions, they will at no point be forced to talk about something which they do not want to, in keeping with the child-led nature of Mind Jam.

How does it work?

Each child will have their own world to explore and interact in with their counsellor. Communication will be through a Google Meet chat, which can be video, audio only, or in some cases text based. The counsellor assigned to your child will add them on the X-Box Network in order to invite them into their world on Realms. Once they have had their session in the world, this will be saved in a confidential and secure area on the Mind Jam network and will be reloaded onto Realms for their next session.

Please be aware that our counsellor will unfriend your child on the X-Box network
and re-friend them before their next session. This is due to the X-Box network
allowing other people to see mutual friends etc. and this is done to maintain
confidentiality as effectively as possible.

What to Expect.

After an initial consultation with the young person’s parent or carer to ensure that the service is a good fit for them, your counsellor will send you a contract for your young person to complete and arrange a tech check to ensure that we can connect on the day of the appointment or troubleshoot any issues that may arise.

Once this has been completed, the young person will be invited to join their own counselling world through Realms. Whilst in this world the young person will be invited to explore the world, build structures and explore some of the creations designed to understand themselves, their emotions and ways of being able to cope with anything that might be troubling them.
