Mentor

Hi, I’m Monika

I’m a creative person with many hobbies and passions, and a late-diagnosed AuDHDer. Alongside mentoring, I am also a trainee counsellor in the final year of my diploma. My degree is in Biomedical Science, but I quickly realised that laboratory work wasn’t for me – working with young people is what truly brings me joy.

Over the past decade, I have been working in education, and I always tried to go the extra mile for young people who needed more support. I have been mentoring neurodivergent students who are struggling with mental health, identity, and relationships. I have helped them discover and develop their unique talents, unmask, and find their voice. It has been incredibly rewarding to see positive changes in their attitudes, motivation, confidence and self-esteem.

My approach has always been creative, interest-based and person-centred. I run clubs and workshops (Magic The Gathering, Arts & Crafts, and Anime) that encourage connection and help build friendships through shared interests. Mentoring with an adult who ‘gets it’ can make a huge difference in a young person’s life. That’s why I’m so grateful for Mindjam and very proud of what we do.

Growing up, I was a non-typical kid, and gaming helped me immensely in surviving school. I had lots of online friends, enjoyed art, graphic design and music. Gaming shaped who I am today and it still remains an important part of my life. My first games were Tetris, Super Mario Bros, Tekken 3 and Final Fantasy VII (yes, old people games).

I am friendly, easygoing, empathetic and non-judgemental. I will always work with your skills and strengths, respect your values and choices, and never pressure you into completing tasks. No eye contact required and bad days very much allowed – we all have them and you can always be yourself. Mentoring is your time and you are in charge. I’m happy to assist you in whatever feels helpful on the day.

I have experience supporting students in Art, Media, and Design Technology, and I can help you with both digital and traditional projects. Sometimes it might be difficult to come up with ideas, or to start and finish a project, and I can assist you every step of the way.

My special interest is biology, particularly herbalism and nature. I love all plants and creatures and know many animal fun facts. On weekends, you can find me hiking, foraging, and identifying plants and insects.

I would love to learn about your interests and talk (or type) just about anything.

It takes a lot of courage to take the first step, and I’m already so proud of you!
