Sandranne

Mentor

Hello! My name is Sandranne, and just in case the spelling is causing any confusion, it is pronounced “Sandra Anne” :). I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to work with MindJam as a Mentor, where I support children and young people with empathy, encouragement, and genuine enthusiasm. I bring a blend of lived insight, professional experience, and a passion for helping others feel understood, valued, and empowered.

Gaming has been a lifelong interest and passion of mine – a constant source of comfort, connection, and growth. As a child, I never went on an overnight trip without packing a handheld console, and some of my favourite memories come from hours spent exploring virtual worlds. In adulthood, I rekindled that passion and quickly became immersed in the gaming community, much to the amusement of friends who would joke about me always being mid-game when they came to visit. I enjoy playing across a wide range of genres – from creative sandboxes to competitive team games, strategic challenges, and casual social adventures. This variety means I can meet young people where they are in their gaming interests, whether that’s through collaboration, competition, or simply shared play for fun and connection, and I’m always open to trying something new, whether it’s teaming up in fast-paced multiplayer sessions or enjoying quieter, more reflective play.

Academically, I hold a Foundation Degree (Distinction) in Working with Children, Young People & Families, which gave me valuable expertise in safeguarding, child development, and evidence-based practice. During my studies, I completed placements supporting children with SEN in a primary school, and working with a local charity to deliver online mentoring during the pandemic. Both roles focused on building self-esteem, resilience, and connection for young people. I’ve often struggled with my own self-esteem and resilience, and for a long time I never believed I would go to university because I didn’t see myself as “smart enough.” Taking that step showed me that we can surprise ourselves when we take a chance – and that self-belief, even in small doses, can carry us further forward than we imagine.

I bring both personal and professional insights into navigating complex needs and mental health challenges. Growing up in the care system and later coming to understand and identify traits of ADHD and C-PTSD has not always been easy, but I was fortunate to experience positive support along the way from various networks and provisions. Those moments of care and guidance shaped my resilience, deepened my empathy, and inspired me to provide the same sense of encouragement and belief for others. These experiences continue to guide my passion and commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of children, young people, and families.
