Hi! I’m Alex, a voice-over artist and actor who works in video games and audiobooks.
I love how games both soothe us when times are tough and connect us together: Some of my first memories are of playing games on my dad’s Atari ST – They were terrible! But it didn’t matter, because we were playing them together. That taught me early on that gaming was never really about the graphics or even winning – it was about those moments of connection and shared joy.

As someone with ADHD, I understand what it’s like to need both structure and freedom to flourish. Gaming became a way to focus my restless brain, and to find my tribe: I started a gaming channel around VR (I’ve dreamt of Star Trek’s Holodeck since I was a kid!), and my very first video went viral – it was just me and three random strangers absolutely falling apart with laughter as we failed spectacularly to run a spaceship… They weren’t strangers for long. That channel grew into something I never expected: A genuine community hub where neurodivergent people could show up as themselves.

Through my work as a voice artist, I’ve been lucky enough to bring characters to life in games, which gives me this amazing connection to the medium from both sides. I’ve also toured Europe with theatre companies. My actor training is in the Gonsalves Method, which is all about truly seeing people and letting them in. Combined with my training in massage therapy and other bodywork, I am exceptionally good at “reading the room” – I can spot when someone’s becoming overwhelmed, when they need a break, or when their blood-sugar is getting low, often before they notice themselves.

I love co-op games that bring people together – PEAK, Grounded, Abiotic Factor, Lethal Company (some people call them “friend slop” but the friend part is what matters!). These games create not just a structure, but a jungle gym for experience and connection. I’m also drawn to games that do something novel, like Death Stranding, where you walk for hours delivering packages with just your thoughts for company – sometimes that’s exactly what a neurodivergent mind needs. In VR my go-to is Walkabout Mini Golf, which I could write an essay about! Everyone should have a copy.

What I’ve learned from years of gaming with friends is that sometimes the best thing you can do is help someone else feel like a hero. I used to play Halo and deliberately miss my shots (while making it feel convincing!) just so my friends could experience that rush of victory.

MindJam’s approach resonates with me because it’s about meeting people where they’re at, not dragging them into spaces that don’t work for their brains. After watching my own community thrive when given the right environment, I know how powerful it can be to have someone in your corner who understands that sometimes, just showing up is a victory worth celebrating.
