Movement & Energy

Our physical and mental wellbeing are closely connected. The way we care for our bodies can affect how we think, feel, learn and cope with everyday challenges. Looking after yourself doesn’t mean being perfect, it’s about finding routines and activities that help you feel your best.

Moving Your Body: Supporting Your Mind and Wellbeing
    • Movement isn’t just about exercise or playing sport. It’s about giving your body opportunities to move in ways that feel enjoyable, comfortable and achievable for you.

      Regular movement can help:

      • Improve your mood by releasing chemicals in the brain that help us feel good.
      • Reduce stress and anxiety.
      • Improve concentration and focus.
      • Boost energy levels.
      • Support better sleep.
      • Improve physical health, strength and flexibility.

The best type of movement is the one you enjoy. There is no “right” way to be active, and everyone’s body is different.

      You might enjoy:

      • Walking with family or friends.
      • Dancing to your favourite music.
      • Swimming.
      • Cycling.
      • Team sports or martial arts.
      • Yoga or stretching.
      • Active gaming, such as virtual reality or dance games.
      • Playing in the park or walking the dog.
    Every Little Bit Counts
      • Being active doesn’t have to mean spending hours exercising. Even short bursts of movement throughout the day can make a real difference to how you feel.

If you spend a lot of time gaming, studying or using screens, try to:

        • Stand up and stretch every hour.
        • Walk around while waiting for a game or video to load.
        • Roll your shoulders or stretch your arms and legs.
        • Get some fresh air if you can.

These small breaks can help reduce muscle stiffness, improve focus and give your brain a chance to recharge.

      Listen to Your Body
      • Everyone has days when they feel full of energy and days when they don’t. Being active is about finding what feels right for you and recognising when your body needs to rest as well as move.

There is no need to compare yourself to anyone else. The goal is simply to move in ways that help you feel healthier, happier and more confident.

        Fuel and Hydration
        • Your body needs energy and water every day to help it think, move, learn and grow.

Simple things can make a difference:

          • Drink water regularly throughout the day to stay hydrated.
          • Try not to skip meals if you can, as your body needs fuel to keep going.
          • Remember that everyone has different food preferences and needs.

If eating feels difficult or worrying for you, or you’re struggling with food for any reason, it’s always okay to talk to a trusted adult, such as a parent, carer, teacher or healthcare professional.

          MindJam Support & Mental Health

At MindJam, we know that everyone’s wellbeing journey is different. Our mentors won’t tell you what you should eat or how you should exercise. Instead, they provide a safe, supportive and non-judgemental space where you can explore healthy routines, discover types of movement you enjoy, and talk about anything that might be affecting your wellbeing.

For parents and carers, our counselling team can support conversations around building healthy routines, encouraging enjoyable movement and helping young people develop positive habits that work for them.
