Mentor

Hey there, I’m Maddy!

I have been a Primary School Teacher and the computing lead for the last two years. I have taught computing to all of the KS2 children in school- including Scratch, Video Editing and Python. I have a degree in Psychology (with Counselling) and hands-on experience with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), which has given me a unique perspective that blends educational expertise with a love for gaming.

Volunteering with Brownies and Rangers taught me the significance of mentorship and support for children. Although I initially aimed to become a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO), my path took an exciting turn when I realised the impact forming positive trusting relationships can have on the lives of children. I’m known for my friendly demeanour, empathy, and patience. I firmly believe in the uniqueness of each child, and by paying close attention to the smallest details with a non-judgmental attitude, I build strong rapport and trust with young people and their families.

Effective communication is my forte, honed through counselling, crisis intervention and working with children with speech and language disorders. This skillset seamlessly translates into both my teaching and gaming mentorship roles, ensuring effective support for all children. I am used to tailoring approaches to meet the specific needs and interests of each child, adopting a person-centred and enthusiastic style.

As a collaborative team player, I work seamlessly with external agencies, including therapists, educators, and parents, to create a comprehensive support system for the children under my care. My commitment to staying updated on the latest research and best practices is evident through regular workshop attendance, focusing on Autism (especially in females), ADHD, and PDA. I believe that a problem shared is a problem halved, so please don’t be afraid to bring up any thoughts or concerns!

I play games on PC and Switch. I am currently learning how to play League of Legends, while tending to my crops on Stardew Valley, and saving Captain Olimar on Pikmin 4.
