Geraint Morris
Mentor
I have vast daily hands-on experience supporting children with mental health disabilities (ADHD) and developmental disabilities (Autism). During my time at college, I took part in voluntary work which involved supporting young children with mental, developmental and physical disabilities. This was an eye-opening experience for me and had a huge impact on my own personal growth. I’ve also been on many school trips with both my younger siblings, providing extra support for them and other children with complex needs. I have recently attended understanding ADHD and Autism online workshops to better understand the needs and differences of the individual.
I have a 7-year-old brother who is a child with autism and an 11-year-old brother who is a child with ADHD, Autism tendencies and learning difficulties. They are both on completely different ends of the spectrum which has allowed me to gain a wealth of knowledge and experience in understanding the individual needs and differences of these amazing kids.
I have a broad understanding of sensory needs, triggers, PDA, managing challenging behaviors, strategies, communication, visual support (non-verbal children), emotional awareness and much more.
I truly believe that when children are nurtured based on their individual needs, they can achieve great things. With the right guidance, support and understanding they can reach their full potential within the areas they are most passionate about. My true belief is these children are simply reaching out to be understood in a world they feel misunderstood. I have absolute confidence in my ability to bring a positive, nurturing, understanding and compassionate approach. My personal experience and level of understanding holds great value in regard to what I’m able to offer the children. I do not see these kids as dysfunctional; they are unique in their own ways, and nothing gives me more pleasure than to make a difference in their lives, as I quote:
“To be normal is to fit in, to be different is to be extraordinary”
In addition, I have skills in the field of sport science including, National Extended Diploma in Sports and Exercise Sciences and a Diploma of Higher Education in Sport, Fitness and coaching. I have many sports leader awards of achievement and consider myself an “all-rounder” in sports, football being my biggest passion. I am a keen gamer in my spare time with lots of gaming experience in general. I enjoy FIFA, Call of Duty, Forza Horizon and GTA just to name a few.
I’m extremely excited to be working with Mind Jam and to have the opportunity to start making a real difference to the lives of young people and families
