Mentor

I formerly worked in a residential care home for young people aged 8-18 with a range of Special Education Needs including Autism, ADHD, social anxieties and challenging behaviours along with associated difficulties that come along with these needs. No matter the child I am working with, I will always strive to ensure everything we do is child centered and, where possible, child led as from my years of experience this has always gained the best results, especially for children with demand avoidance.

By using video games as a medium we are able to help the child feel comfortable and happy in an environment that is safe and familiar to them, and Mind Jam allows for this level of child led interaction, which I have seen similarly in my work in a residential care home, do wonders to allow children of all ability levels show skill, achievement and progress. It is this sense of self-worth and independence that I hope to bring to more children to help them to be able to discuss and share any difficulties or issues they may be having in a way they feel happy and comfortable so we can work together to help them achieve the best they possibly can.

I have been gaming since I was a little kid myself and it is something that has stuck with me as it gives an opportunity no other medium has for adventure and achievement. I started to teach myself to code when I was around 20 years old. I have always been interested in how software and games were made, and I  was drawn to the logical coding aspect of it. I have learnt (to varying degrees) Python, C++, C# and Java and would love to share what I know with children eager to learn themselves. I have been fully DBS checked, and have training in all sorts of aspects including safeguarding and online safety.
