Steven McFarlane
Mentor
I am a primary school teacher, with over 12 years of experience in education and working with young people. During this time, I have worked in Thailand, Taiwan, and the UK, working in both mainstream schools, and those that specialise in special educational needs. This has allowed me to gain experience in working with and supporting those with varying needs including Autism, Cerebral Palsy, ADHD, and Dyspraxia.
With a passion for supporting young people’s emotional well-being, I have always made it my top priority to create warm and inviting learning environments, where students feel truly supported and encouraged to explore their passions. This has included various clubs, including gaming, coding, and stop-motion animation, where the students were free to express their creativity and passions.
I have had a passion for gaming since childhood and it has always been a source of relaxation,
enjoyment, and stress relief. As someone who lives with anxiety, gaming has always been an activity that has allowed me to compose myself and my thoughts, enabling me to better understand my feelings and find a positive, calming outcome. I am a firm believer in the power of gaming, which allows for emotional expression, stress relief, and the development of valuable skills. I am immensely proud to be a member of the MindJam team, providing a special place for young people to truly feel comfortable.
