Sandranne Clark
Mentor
Hello! I’m Sandranne, and just in case the spelling is causing any confusion, my name is pronounced “Sandra Anne” ???? I’m honoured to have the opportunity work with MindJam as a Mentor, and I’m excited to listen, encourage, and empower each mentee with my diverse experiences, empathetic nature, and genuine enthusiasm.
Gaming has been a lifelong passion of mine – a constant source of comfort, connection, and growth. As a child, I’d always make sure to pack my Nintendo DS for overnight trips and have fond memories of playing on the PlayStation 1 and 2. When I was 22, I rekindled my love of gaming by buying an Xbox and diving into titles like The Division, Fortnite, and Smite. I quickly became immersed in the gaming world, much to the amusement of my friends who would often send a text before visiting, to say “We are almost there – you can get off Fortnite now”.
Over time, I expanded my gaming horizons, exploring a variety of genres and platforms. These days, I’m a true “variety gamer”, playing on mouse and keyboard with a PC and I’ll happily try out any new game, even if I’ve never played it or heard about it before – I’ve discovered some of my favourite games that way! Whether it’s playing online multiplayer games with friends like Overwatch or Valorant, or relaxing on my own, whilst watching a documentary and playing Teamfight Tactics.
Academically, I hold a Foundation Degree (Distinction) in Working with Children, Young People & Families. This has given me with valuable expertise in areas such as safeguarding, child development, and using evidence-based practices. I decided to go to university when I was 23, after being so sure when I left school at 16 that I would never and could never go to university, because I wasn’t ‘smart enough’. I’ve come to learn that smartness is truly subjective and has helped me to value the importance of individuality and self-expression, in a way that works best for each person. It can look different for everyone!
I’ve completed valuable university placements – one working within a learning mentor team at a local primary school supporting children with SEN, and another working with a local charity, supporting young people over Zoom in weekly sessions, empowering them to have confidence and provide a platform where they can influence their world and stay connected, during the pandemic. In both of these roles, I assisted in the planning and delivery of sessions for children and young people with additional needs, focusing on objectives such as building self-esteem and developing peer relationships.
Importantly, I have both personal and professional insights into navigating complex needs and mental health difficulties. I spent much of my own childhood in the care system, and as a young adult, I discovered I had ADHD and C-PTSD. Although challenging, at times, it has deepened my empathy and commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of children, young people, and families.
