Nat Halman
Mentor
I’m really passionate about advocating for neurodiversity, and this comes from both my personal and professional experiences, which shape how I approach my mentoring work with MindJam. As someone who’s both autistic and ADHD, and also the parent of a neurodivergent child, I’ve spent years diving deep into understanding the unique challenges and strengths that come with neurodiversity. This journey has really motivated me to help others in similar situations and make a meaningful difference.
My path has been a mix of personal growth and supporting my son, who shares a similar neurodivergent profile. Over time, I’ve learned, adapted, and found ways to foster autonomy and understanding, which has strengthened our bond and deepened my desire to advocate for others.
Gaming has always been a big part of my life, offering not just fun but also a way to connect and learn. I share this passion with my son, and we love exploring digital worlds together in games like Minecraft, Fortnite, and Roblox. I’m also a big fan of strategy and city-building games like Age of Empires because they encourage critical thinking and creativity—skills I think are really valuable for personal development.
When traditional therapies didn’t quite work for my son, I turned to gaming as a more effective and engaging alternative. That’s what drew me to MindJam and their innovative approach to using video games as a way to support neurodivergent youth. Their mission really resonates with me, and I’m excited to contribute by creating a supportive environment where neurodivergent kids can thrive.
Besides mentoring, I also have a lot of experience managing online communities and creating safe, supportive spaces. I’ve got a growing interest in technology, especially coding, and I’m also well-versed in WordPress web design and graphic design, which I’m eager to integrate into my work with MindJam.
What I find most rewarding is connecting with neurodivergent kids, getting into their special interests, and encouraging them to express their unique passions. There’s nothing more fulfilling to me than seeing a child’s eyes light up when they talk about what they love. That genuine interest and enthusiasm are at the heart of how I approach mentoring, making sure every interaction is meaningful and supportive.
I’m really excited to be working with MindJam and to continue helping kids find their voice and grow through gaming and digital skills. This journey is all about fostering understanding, creativity, and growth, and I’m thrilled to be part of it.
